Yei are religious Navajo deities adapted from sand paintings. These sandpaintings usually were meant to emulate healing ceremonies known as the Nightway Chant. When made into rugs there are typically about eight to ten Yei-Be-Che dancers behind a leader. 23 x 34 inches.
The concept of combining the past with the present – using reclaimed wood, in some cases hundreds of years old, to create modern pieces – is fascinating to me. Regional projects never cease to inspire me.
