Evangeline Garcia and Helen Piaso are sisters who have joined forces to craft traditional Navajo dolls by hand. Born into the Navajo Nation, Evangeline (born in 1959) and Helen (born in 1941) were inspired by their mother, Hannah Garcia, to carry on their family's legacy and master the art of doll making. Starting at the ages of 14 and 20, respectively, the sisters learned the foundations of sewing and honed their skills in creating dolls made from cloth, sequins, beads, wool, yarn, and cotton. Their collection includes intricate figures such as corn grinders, horses, storytellers, and Navajo mothers with their infants. Motivated by their culture and the desire to create meaningful art, Evangeline and Helen have become experts in their craft.
