Antique Native American basket with ten ducks on the side. The basket has a tight weave with two pairs of red bands around the top and bottom. The base of the basket is a cedar checkerboard weave. Damage due to age.

The Makah people live at Neah Bay on the northwest tip of Washington state. In the 1860s, Makah basketmakers began developing products for sale. Makah baskets are made from cedar and beargrass. Makah baskets typically have a cedar checkerboard base.
