For over 25 years, Fred Cruz and his wife, Della Cruz, have been crafting one-of-a-kind handmade pieces that showcase their Tohono O'odham heritage. With a deep passion for their tradition, they have not only shared their knowledge through demonstrations, but also educated the public on every aspect of this intricate art form. Della, who began weaving at the young age of five, learned the intricate details from her mother while growing up in a rural village near Sells, AZ on the Tohono O'odham Nation land. As she continued to experiment with various weaving techniques, it evolved into her artistic calling. Together, Della and Fred have gained recognition for their signature three-dimensional figurative basket designs, with Della's love for desert animal figures shining through in her creations.
