Collection: Storm Pattern

Storm Patter rugs are typically woven in the western regions. The pattern first appeared around the turn of the century. Originally, red, black, and white were the primary colors of these Navajo rugs. Over the years, artists incorporated other dyes. Traditionally, the box at the center of the design is said to represent the hogans of the four winds, four directions, or four sacred mountains. A variety of designs are incorporated throughout the weavings, especially water symbols like water bugs, clouds, and whirling logs.
